Our "New" Converted School Bus

Look now, the bus may never be this tidy again. In fact, it's not this tidy right now. Since these pictures were taken we've moved more stuff in and spent our first three official nights on the new futon.  It's great to be back!

Steve built this beautiful set of shelves so that we would have more room to store the food that I am drying in our solar dehydrator and on the roof of the bus. I've found that drying food is perfect for bus life, but more on that in future posts.

Morning light in the bus kitchen.

Our new Jotul stove. It's 75% efficient and takes up less space than our old stove.

The garden is producing well this year.

  2. The renovation looks great! I love the live-edge wood and the new shelving... glad that you kept the ceiling the way it is... that's my favorite part of your bus.
    Is it insulated?

  3. Yes, it is insulated. The previous owner put insulation made from recycled blue jeans between the shell of the bus and the floor, walls, and ceiling. It works well.

  4. Oh the shelf is gorgeous! And the new stove fits perfectly! Can't wait to see it all in person again all nestled back into it's cozy corner of the Oberg's.

  5. Correction. There is foil bubble wrap insulation between the ceiling and the shell.

  6. Hi! I only found your blog today, but I've been looking through your old posts and I wanted to mention how much I admire what you've done with your bus. I've been looking at buses that people have renovated because I intend to make my own in a year and a half or so,and I absolutely love the look of yours. I will definitely remember it when I start designing mine. Please keep writing about your life on your lovely bus! It's very encouraging to see proof of someone living constantly like this. Thank you!

  8. I second that, great to hear any advice. Very different needs and facilities etc in Ireland/Europe, but great to hear different tips, especially regarding insulation. Plan to buy and convert over the next three years as a long term home solution. Continued good luck with yours.
